About the Scholarship

This Scholarship is a joint venture between APDT Australia and Black Dog Wear Australia.  It provides a unique opportunity for an APDT Australia member to use their skills and interests to research and develop a resource of information, packaged in interesting ways and freely available for use by others in the dog world.

It is designed to encourage innovation and creativity, while promoting positive reinforcement training techniques and APDT Australia.

The winner will receive:

  • full registration to attend the APDT USA Annual Conference 2012*;
  • return economy air fares from an appropriate Eastern Australian capital city to the USA city hosting the APDT USA Conference of that year. Accommodation, meals and ancillary costs for the conference would need to be covered by the recipient;
  • up to $1000 towards final project expenses (payment on receipts for actual expenses);
  • A 12 month Full membership to APDT USA;
  • a profile in the APDT Australia Newsletter and at the 2013 APDT Australia Annual Conference;
  • an optional 30 day Internship at Legacy (outside Seattle, WA, USA) at a 50% discount, (costs to be met by the recipient), and free lodging for the period of the Internship;
  • 1 day registration to attend the APDT Australia Annual Conference 2013

The Scholarship is not just limited to a package focusing on dog training.  Areas of interest could be as broad as:

  • developing a shelter-based program;
  • producing a video showing how dogs experience the world;
  • developing a web site as a resource for the dog world;
  • developing a mobile phone app for dog lovers.

Applications will be judged by an independent panel of judges whose decision will be final and entries remain the property of APDT Australia. All final packages will remain the property of APDT Australia.

*The Award is not transferrable or redeemable for cash and is only valid for attendance at APDT USA 2012 Annual Conference. Conference accommodation, meals and all other incidentals & associated costs are at the expense of the recipient.

There will be a large amount of work involved in producing the final package, which will require a considerable commitment of both time and resources.  The applicant must carefully consider whether they are able to fulfill these obligations prior to submitting an application.

The successful applicant will be notified on 17 September 2011 to allow time to make arrangements to attend the 2012 APDT USA Annual Conference and the scholarship will be presented at the APDT Australia 2011 Annual Conference in Sydney in October.

The deadline for receipt of applications for the APDT and Black Dog Wear Scholarship is 1st August 2011.
